IT’S SMARTPHONE launch season, which means we’re about to be hit with loads of new blowers – including a new Sony phone.

Sony Xperia XZ4 – what is it?
The Sony Xperia XZ4 is an as-yet unannounced smartphone from Japanese tech giant Sony.
The handset is tipped as a successor to last year’s Sony Xperia XZ3, and will be a “flagship” device – basically, a direct iPhone rival.
Sony hasn’t confirmed any details about the new phone, but information has been trickling out in recent months.
And Sony fans will be pleased to hear that we may now be just days away from the Xperia XZ4 release.
Sony Xperia XZ4 release date – when is the new Sony 2019 phone out?
In January 2019, Sony invited The Sun’s tech team – and other journalists – to a special press event.
This will take place at 7.30pm on Monday, February 25 in Barcelona, Spain.
That means it’ll be held during Mobile World Congress, an annual tech show held in Barcelona where industry giants like Samsung, Sony and LG come together to show off their new gadgets.
Sony hasn’t strictly confirmed that the Sony Xperia XZ4 will be unveiled at MWC 2019, but it’s looking very likely.
MWC 2019 will be a hot-bed for mobile launches, and Sony would be mad not to debut a smartphone at the event.
Sony Xperia XZ4 specs and features – what’s new?
Until the Sony Xperia XZ4 is official, we can’t say exactly what specs and features it’ll be rocking.
Posting to Twitter, renowned mobile tipster “Ice Universe” recently teased that the phone would be a similar size to Apple’s gargantuan 6.5-inch iPhone XS Max.
That potentially means it’ll have a larger screen than the 6-inch Sony Xperia XZ3.
This is likely to be achieved by shrinking the phone’s “bezel” – that’s the border around the screen.
Many phone makers have adopted this strategy, including Apple, Samsung and OnePlus.
The handset is also tipped to feature a large 3,900mAh battery that should take users through a day of usage comfortably.
And it’s entirely likely that the Sony Xperia XZ4 will be powered by Qualcomm’s super-fast Snapdragon 855 chip.
Sony Xperia XZ4 price – how much will the new Sony 2019 phone cost?
Sadly, no Sony Xperia XZ4 price info has been leaked yet
However, we can still make some educated guesses about what might be in store for users.
The Sony Xperia XZ3 was priced at £699 when it launched last year, which marked it as a high-end handset – but without it being ludicrously costly.
Apple changed the game in 2018 however, by releasing its most expensive trio of smartphones ever.
There was the £749 iPhone XR, the £999 iPhone XS, and the iPhone XS Max – which could cost as much as £1,449.
It’s possible that Sony may use this opportunity to boost its own pricing, justifying the higher cost with Apple’s own price hike.
Of course, Sony may buck the trend and choose to offer customers good value for money too.
