Filming for season 3 of The Crown is well underway, with Helena Bonham Carter and Olivia Colman shooting a scene on Sunday at an airfield in London.

Olivia - who plays Queen Elizabeth II in the Netflix drama series - appeared to be boarding a plane in the scene, as Helena - as Princess Margaret - looked to be disembarking it.

Behind Helena was actor Harry Treadaway in the role of Margaret's 'toyboy' Roddy Llewellyn.

Both swept off the jet wearing heavy coats and shades looking unprepared to chat to any of the crowd waiting down on the tarmac. 

Brunette locks swept above her head in an apt bouffant, Helena, 52, looked sternly forward, shades covering her eyes, a thick brown fur coat over her shoulders.

She kept things autumnal in brown leather gloves and a matching dress with cream detailing. 

Harry, 34, wore a camel trench over a red shirt and khaki slacks, seen hurrying down the plane steps after Helena, also wearing sunglasses despite the overcast weather.

In contrast, Olivia, 44, was seen pleasantly meeting the well-wishers at the foot of the plane's steps, smiling happily.

She wore a grey/blue skirt and matching jacket with navy trim, a navy hat and a black and white purse over her arm.

She wore white gloves, pearls around her neck, matching earrings and a brooch on her lapel.

Olivia replaces Claire Foy, Tobias Menzies plays what was formally Matt Smith's role as Prince Philip, while Jason Watkins will play the new character of Prime Minister Harold Wilson.

It was reported on Sunday in The Times that season 4 - which is being shot back-to-back with season 3 and is expected to hit Netflix in 2020 - that Gillian Anderson will join the cast as Margaret Thatcher when her time in office is featured [1979-1990].

The actress, 50, will portray the former-Prime Minister during her 11-year tenure, which saw her in office from 1979 to 1990, reports The Sunday Times.

She is currently featuring in Sex Education - another Netflix series - as therapist Jean Milburn.

Thatcher's relationship with Queen Elizabeth II was known to be sometimes frayed.

Season 4 is likely to feature political matters such South Africa's Apartheid legislation, the Falklands War and 1984/5 miners' strike.
