New Pictures Chris Evans says he feels ‘great’ as he arrives at Virgin Radio for his groundbreaking new breakfast show

CHRIS Evans told The Sun he was feeling “great” as he arrived to host his new Virgin Radio breakfast show this morning, after nearly two decades away from the station.

The 52-year-old DJ grinned as he turned up at the new state-of-the-art studios in The News Building in London at 6am, half an hour before he was due on air.

Wearing a multicoloured hat and a camel-coloured coat, Chris told waiting fans that the show was going to be “great”, insisting: “Give it a listen.”

Radio legend Chris announced in September that he was quitting Radio 2 and signing up with Virgin, calling it his “spiritual home”.

However, he has brought some friends from his old station, with sports newsreader Vassos Alexander, producer Meera Depala and executive producer Ellie Davis making the switch with him.

In a commercial radio first, Chris’ entire breakfast show, which is on air until 10am, will run without a single ad break, thanks to a deal with Sky.

He said yesterday: “To what extent will I involve my family in order to make the new show a hit? The answer is infinite. I’m sorry, that’s just the way it is.

Chris said that joining Virgin Radio – part of the Wireless Group, owned by The Sun’s publisher News UK – would mean it was “all hands on deck” for his family.

He told The Sun: “To what extent will I involve my family in order to make the new show a hit? The answer is infinite. I’m sorry, that’s just the way it is. It’s all hands on deck here, including the little ones.”

Chris and golfer wife Natasha Shishmanian, 38, welcomed twins Walt and Boo in September.

Chris started his career as a teen at Piccadilly Radio, before working at London’s GLR and finding telly fame on Channel 4’s groundbreaking morning show The Big Breakfast.

He went on to invent – and host – shows including Don’t Forget Your Toothbrush and TFI Friday, as well as fronting the Radio 1 Breakfast Show in the 90s.

After that, he moved back to radio to host the Radio 1 Breakfast Show, before moving over to Virgin Radio for the first time.

Today, he made his historic return.

Virgin Radio is available nationally on DAB digital radio, online at www.virginradio.co.uk and on mobile via the Virgin Radio app. Download the app on iTunes and from Google Play.
