THERE are fears the holy site where the bible says Moses received God’s Ten Commandments could be bulldozed to make way for a Saudi megacity.
A recent documentary, Finding the Mountain of Moses: The Real Mount Sinai in Saudi Arabia, claims the most likely spot for the holy mountain does not sit in Egypt as popular belief holds.
The doco places the real location in north-west Saudi Arabia – near the heart of where Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman plans to build Neom, a colossal city seventeen times the size of London.
The documentary’s presenter, Ryan Mauro, claims his evidence stretches back 600 years further than competing theories’.
His prospect for Mt Sinai is formally known as Jabal al Lawz, and sits near the Jordanian border.
Mauro points to the peaks blackened top, saying it is evidence of the scriptures claim that God himself descended upon the mountain “as of fire”.
Saudi construction in the area may destroy key evidence,
Ryan Mauro, documentary maker
Geologists, Mauro notes, believe the darkened top is metamorphic rock, but the blackening, according to him is only on the surface.
Mauro also says the locals refer to the mountain as Jebel Musa – the Mountain of Moses.
If the ambitious Neom project goes ahead, Mauro says the Saudis will wipe out important historical and archaeological evidence.
He said: “Saudi construction in the area may destroy key evidence.”
Mauro points to many distinctive features around the site, including a rocky plinth near the base of the mountain which he says is where the Golden Calf was worshipped.
The structure appears to have depictions of bulls carved into its base.

Mauro even claims to have found a mass grave, where many of the calf worshippers were buried after being struck down by God.
Mauro is part of the not for profit Doubting Thomas Research Foundation, which is now lobbying to have the sites saved for future investigation.
Neom is expected to cover 10,230-square-miles and cost £350billion, and is planned to run on 100 per cent renewable energy.
