CHELSEA could reportedly make a £16.5million loss on Atletico Madrid target Alvaro Morata.
Italian news outlet Gazzetta dello Sport claims the striker is closing in on six-month loan move back to the Spanish capital this month.
Atletico will then apparently make the deal permanent in the summer for £48.5m.
That is a staggering £16.5m less than Chelsea paid Real Madrid for Morata’s services 18 months ago.
It indicates that the club are keen to move him on as quickly as possible in order to sign Gonzalo Higuain from Juventus.
While Morata is reportedly willing to accept a pay cut in order to return to his childhood club.
Latest Chelsea news
The Spain international has been far from his best during a short stint in London.
Morata scored just 15 goals in 48 appearances during his first season under Antonio Conte.
And his career has not fared well playing for Maurizio Sarri either, with just nine goals in 24 games.
Morata will now be looking to reboot his career with Diego Simeone, but he arrival could spell the end of Diego Costa’s time at Atletico – the same striker Morata replaced when he came to Chelsea.
