PEP GUARDIOLA is going head to head with Barcelona in a bid to get Spain Under-16 skipper Jorge Alastuey to the Etihad.

The Manchester City boss wants to sign the midfield dynamo at the end of the season when his deal expires at the Nou Camp.

Alastuey, 15, has become Guardiola’s top target after hitting snags with a move for powerful Ilaix Moriba.

The Catalan giants are offering Moriba massive sums to stay despite City and latterly Chelsea trying to whisk him away.

So Guardiola has now put his efforts into the next starlet on the La Masia production line.

Meanwhile, SunSport understands City are also targeting Schalke midfielder Sebastian Rudy to bolster their squad until the summer.

Guardiola is concerned that 33-year-old Fernandinho could suffer from burn-out later in the season.

And he is keen to ensure there is adequate cover for the veteran by bringing in Rudy on a short-term deal.

The former Bayern Munich man has been struggling for form at Schalke this season.

And Pep reckons he can get Rudy to sign on at the Etihad for the next six months, giving him time to sign a long-term replacement for Fernandinho in the summer.

City are also considering a loan swoop for Schalkes Sebastian Rudy this month
