UNAI EMERY doesn’t know if head of recruitment Sven Mislintat is still working for Arsenal.
The startling admission comes in the middle of the transfer window with the Gunners boss still hoping to sign at least one new player this month.
Transfer guru Mislintat is set to leave after just 14 months at Arsenal amid concerns over his role at the club.
Yet manager Emery claims that nobody at the club has told him about the German’s impending departure and he is still relying on Mislintat to get a deal over the line in the next two weeks.
He admitted: “I don’t know if Sven is leaving. I didn’t speak with him today but I was working with him in the last two weeks and we had two or three meetings together to talk about transfers.
“When I spoke with him it was all normal. I don’t know if there is a different issue with him.
“We had these meetings together on bringing in players this month and whether there is any progress.
“And, for me, the normality is working with him.”
The chaotic situation comes a week after Emery confirmed that he had no money to spend this month and could only look to bring in players on loan.
He is still hoping to clinch a loan deal for Barcelona winger Denis Suarez, but is becoming increasingly pessimistic about completing any business this month.

He said: “The transfer window is not easy to find players that can help us with better performances than the players we already have.
“The club is working and I spoke with Sven and with head of football Raul Sanllehi about different possibilities with loan players.
“We are looking for something special and if we can find someone maybe we can make a deal.
“These are private conversations between us and I don’t want to talk about the individual names we are discussing.”
Yet Emery at least ruled out suggestions that he is looking to offload Mesut Ozil this month and hinted that the German playmaker could be involved against Chelsea tomorrow.
The club’s £350,000-a-week top earner did not even make the subs’ bench for last week’s damaging 1-0 defeat at West Ham and does not figure in Emery’s long-term plans.
But the manager insisted: “I am not thinking about him leaving in January. I am thinking only about how he can help us this year with good performances.
“I have spoken to him because I want him to show more consistency.
“He’s had some injuries that mean sometimes he’s OK and sometimes he isn’t.
“But I want every player to give the same work and the same spirit every day and to be OK for every match.
“I like to create the same spirit for everyone and the most important thing for me now is how Mesut can help us.
“He has trained consistently over the past two weeks and I think maybe he can be OK for Chelsea on Saturday.”
