LAME excuses for submitting late tax returns have reached new lows.
One person attempting to avoid a £100 fine said: “I’m too short to reach the post box.”
Someone else insisted: “My mother-in-law is a witch and has put a curse on me.”
A third complained their “fingers were too cold to type” after the boiler broke while one blamed a string of unreliable maids.
The taxman released a dossier of self-assessment excuses ahead of the January 31 deadline.
Bosses also revealed the most outlandish rejected expense claims, including £750 for a family holiday to Nigeria plus pet insurance for their dog.
HMRC’s Angela MacDonald said: “Help will always be provided for those who have a genuine excuse for not submitting their return on time.”
