Meanwhile, other memorabilia, including his five England caps and assorted medals where divvied out amongst the rest of the family.

In the will, Regis made it clear he was happy for his family to donate the items to museums.

The footballing legend also asked for his ashes to be buried in the same London grave as his parents.

Regis started his career at Molesey in 1975, before joining West Brom in 1977.

He became one-third of the “the degrees” alongside fellow black players Laurie Cunningham and Brendon Batson.

The trio helped pave the wave for countless black players to break into English football due to the racist abuse they often received.

Regis won five caps for England between 1982 and 87 and became only the third black player to be capped by England.

His debut came at Wembley in a 4-0 win over Northern Ireland in the Home International Championship.

In 1984 he moved to Coventry City for £250,000 where he continued where he left off at the Hawthorns, firing in 62 goals at Highfield Road.

After Coventry he also enjoyed spells with Aston Villa, Wolves, Wycombe and Chester.
