JOSE MOURINHO says that the out-of-favour Arsenal ace Mesut Ozil needs to be treated in a special way if the midfielder is to perform at his highest level.
The German has missed the Gunners’ last four Premier League games, having been benched by Unai Emery for the 2-0 victory over Chelsea.
Mourinho worked with Ozil at Real Madrid, where the pair won the La Liga title in 2012.
The 30-year-old midfielder has been struggling at the Emirates since Emery took over last summer, and often finds himself out of the squad due to “tactical reasons”.
The Spanish coach has even reportedly told the £350,000-a-week midfielder that it would be best for him to leave the club if he wants first-team football.
And Mourinho believes Emery will not reap rewards with such hard-headed treatment of his star, but should not be too lenient for the German either.

He said: “I just feel Ozil is a player that needs both sides of it. If you are just sweet with him you lose his natural aggression because he’s not naturally very strong, physical in terms of aggression.
“If you are too strong with him and forget that he needs a little bit of care and love, you don’t find the right balance.
“So I don’t know if there is a physical problem or a confrontation of ideas with Unai. With me Ozil played magnificently well, maybe not with Unai.
“I don’t know what’s going on, whether he has physical problems or not. He signed a contract and decided to stay so that is not an issue.”
Emery keeps on omitting Ozil in his team selection despite the midfielder putting extra work in training – which he has tellingly highlighted in a string of social media posts.
But the Spaniard appears to see the German’s future away from the Emirates as Arsenal have reportedly offered their star to AC Milan.
Ozil has played in just 16 games in all competitions this season, scoring four goals and assisting two.
