New Pictures Donald Trump slams ‘discredited’ Buzzfeed as Robert Mueller disputes ‘inaccurate’ Russia report

DONALD Trump slammed “discredited” Buzzfeed after Special Counsel Robert Mueller disputed the bombshell report that claimed the  US President lied to Congress.

In a rare public remark, Mueller’s office said the article that claimed Trump had told his ex-attorney Michael Cohen to lie about a Moscow real estate project was “not accurate”.

Trump then rounded on Buzzfeed and tweeted: “A very sad day for journalism, but a great day for our Country!”

He added: “Remember it was Buzzfeed that released the totally discredited “Dossier,” paid for by Crooked Hillary Clinton and the Democrats (as opposition research), on which the entire Russian probe is based!

“Fake News is truly the ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE!”

WHAT DID THE REPORT SAY?

BuzzFeed News reported on Thursday that the US President had tried to cover up his involvement in negotiations to build a Trump Tower in Moscow.

The site also claimed Trump and his oldest children Ivanka and Donald Jr received regular updates about the proposed development.

The report cited two federal law enforcement sources and said the special counsel’s office had learned of Trump’s alleged directive from multiple witnesses, Trump Organization emails, text messages and other documents.

‘NOT ACCURATE’

But a spokesman for Mueller’s office issued a rare comment on Friday evening disputing the report.

“BuzzFeed’s description of specific statements to the Special Counsel’s Office, and characterization of documents and testimony obtained by this office, regarding Michael Cohen’s Congressional testimony are not accurate,” the spokesman said in a statement to BuzzFeed News.

BuzzFeed News editor-in-chief, Ben Smith, wrote on Twitter: “We stand by our reporting and the sources who informed it, and we urge the Special Counsel to make clear what he’s disputing.”

Mueller is currently overseeing the investigation into alleged Russian interference in the US presidential election and whether Trump campaign figures were complicit.

Trump’s personal attorney has also denied the claims that his former legal fixer, Cohen, was instructed to lie to Congress about the details of a Trump business proposal in Russia.

WHO HAS DISMISSED THE REPORT?

Rudy Giuliani says in a statement that “Any suggestion from any source that the President counseled Michael Cohen to lie is categorically false.”

Trump has accused Cohen of “lying to reduce his jail time!” following the report.

Cohen has already been sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to tax crimes, bank fraud and campaign violations.

On Fox News Channel, White House spokesman Hogan Gidley said that the BuzzFeed story was “absolutely ludicrous,” but he repeatedly refused to deny the central allegation: that Trump directed Cohen to lie.

One of Gidley’s interviewers noted at one point: “That was not a denial of my question.”

The Democratic chairmen of two House committees pledged Friday to investigate the report, which cites two unnamed law enforcement officials.
