TICKET resale site Viagogo will have to name touts on it from today — or face court action.

Watchdog the Competition and Markets Authority warned it will “not hesitate” if the firm fails to comply with tough new rules.

In November Viagogo and similar sites were ordered by the High Court to publish names and addresses of users who sell more than 100 tickets a year.

Buyers have to be warned of the face value and if tickets are subject to a resale ban that could lead to them being turned away at the door.

The move, which comes into force today, will also make it easier to get money back if things go wrong. CMA chief executive Andrea Coscelli said:  “Reviews will now take place so we can be clear they are doing everything expected of them.

“We will not hesitate to take further action if any of the sites fail to meet their obligations.”

Last year Ed Sheeran cancelled all tickets bought from Viagogo for his concerts.

He told the BBC: “The only people it is going to harm in the end is the touts.”

Last night Switzerland-based Viagogo insisted it has already met the deadline and is “now compliant”.

Campaigner Claire Turnham, awarded an MBE for winning close to £1million of refunds through her Victim of Viagogo group, said: “We are desperate to know ticket buyers will be able to buy tickets more safely and have certainty that they will be protected by the law.

“We trust the CMA will act swiftly and strictly if Viagogo is not compliant.”
