OCEAN Ramsey takes a deep breath and plunges 12 feet down to stroke the great white shark swimming beneath her…
It’s a daily occurrence for the glam 32-year-old, who spends her days in a bikini free-diving with the predators as part of her job as a marine biologist.
Ocean Ramsey came face-to-face with Deep Blue, a great white shark approximately 20 feet long and weighs a whopping 2.5 tons[/caption]
The fearless beauty, who specialises in animal behaviour – works to protect the predators from extinction by raising awareness of their plight on social media.
Ocean, from Oahu, Hawaii, made waves this week when she posted impressive snaps of her swimming alongside a 20 foot, 50-year-old shark named Deep Blue.
But it’s not the first time she’s been up close and personal with one of nature’s giants…
The bikini-clad shark whisperer
Ocean regularly spends her days swimming with sharks, and posts pictures of her adventures on her Instagram page.
The influencer who is followed by chef Gordon Ramsey, F1 star Lewis Hamilton and Pixie Geldof, has over half a million followers, and uses her presence to encourage people to petition for shark rights.
Fearless Ocean Ramsey loves great white sharks and is determined to dispel myths about the scary animals[/caption]
She first gained notoriety when she was filmed riding the back of a great white named Bella in 2012.
The trained free diver – who can hold her breath for six minutes and reach depths of 175 ft – went viral for the nail-biting moment.
Ocean dived headfirst into what would be most people’s worst nightmare when she swam with Great White shark Bella in 2012
The shark fanatic made contact with the shark when diving off the coast of Baja, Mexico[/caption]
She said at the time: “A lot of people don’t know a lot about sharks.
“People think sharks are going to attack them but that’s so far from the truth – most of the time the sharks are more afraid of us.”
For what might be someone’s worst nightmare, Ocean is fearless when it comes to diving with sharks: “I’m more scared driving on the road than swimming with sharks,” she says. “Sharks are a lot more predictable than people.”
100 million sharks killed a year by humans
Shockingly, the scientist-turned-model says approximately 100 million sharks per year are killed by humans, mainly for their fins – which are used in Chinese delicacy, shark fin soup.
Ocean says: “Shark fin soup is neither tasty or nutritious, it is actually toxic, simply a status symbol, and the demand for it is responsible for the global decimation of shark populations by over 90 per cent.”
Ocean is shark advocate first and foremost but is also a model[/caption]
The blonde model argues that people are unnecessarily scared of sharks.
She said: “Every story needs a villain, and after films like Jaws, it’s just too easy to manipulate the human psyche and ingrain a deeper more absurd terror.
“Just showing these animals swimming around not biting or eating anything – as they are probably 99 per cent of the time – isn’t enough to convince people.”
There have been fears around the world that shark attacks will increase because the global heatwave is attracting the prehistoric predators to coastal waters.
The UK and some of Britain’s favourite holiday hotspots have already seen examples of the shift, with multiple sightings in Majorca and off the coast of Cornwall.
And a Czech dad was killed in a shark attack last year while holidaying with his family at an Egyptian Red Sea resort popular with Brits.
All-female team on a mission to “save Jaws”
Ocean surrounds herself with people who think the same way as her, and is engaged to fellow diver and her personal photographer Juan Oliphant.
When she’s back at home in Hawaii Ocean, Ocean also runs her own business One Ocean Research and Diving.
Her all-female team go out on daily dives to in a bid to educate people about the biology, physiology, behaviour, and body language of sharks to create safer interactions with the animals.
Great whites are considered the most predatory of all marine creatures, and Ocean is desperate for people to be more understanding of them.

“Having worked with sharks for so long I can fully appreciate what they are capable of,” she wrote on Instagram.

“However, I’ve also had the most incredible moments of my life in the water with them where 99.9 per cent of the time they cruise gracefully around.
“I reached the point long ago where I dedicated my life to conservation and I love it, I love educating people about sharks and introducing them to them in a professional guided situation.”
Ocean’s good looks are sure to raise more awareness of her cause to preserve the shark population.
And with more than half a million followers on her social media platform her saving Jaws mission is certain to keep on thriving.
