New Pictures David Tennant mortified to discover what the aubergine emoji really means

DAVID Tennant was left mortified when he discovered what the aubergine emoji really means.

The former Doctor Who star only learned about the seemingly innocent vegetable’s cheeky double meaning during a Hollywood studio’s staff training video on sexual harassment – in light of the #MeToo movement.

David, 47, was attending a workshop that was put on in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein sexual abuse scandal, which highlighted the harassment that women in the industry can face.

The actor was left flabbergasted when he was told that the aubergine, or “eggplant” emoji as it’s known in the US, was not considered innocent – although he wasn’t told why in training.

Speaking at the ACE Comic Con in Arizona, David said that the image flashed up with the warning: “Remember, the eggplant emoji is not just an eggplant.”

The father-of-four continued: “And that was it.

“No explanation, just that. I went WHAT?”

After the training session had ended, David learned that the emoji can be used to symbolise a penis on social media.

David added that the video went through all the “right and proper” warnings, sharing: “Stuff like it’s bad to touch somebody on the bum and all that, and of course, sure.

“You’re starting with a new company, here are the rules, da de da.”

But the warning about emojis scared the British star, who quipped: “I mean, imagine I was just saying ‘do you want some eggplant for dinner’ and suddenly I am up against a tribunal?

“Now I am terrified!”

David has been in Los Angeles filming comedy Fuddy Meers, with sexual harassment training videos becoming widespread across Hollywood as a result of the #MeToo movement.
