NIGEL Farage may be considering a dramatic return to frontline politics.

The 54-year-old former UKIP leader admitted he is unable to sit on the sidelines and watch as Britain’s withdrawal from the EU is sabotaged.

Former activists for Ukip have applied to register the new Brexit Party with the Electoral Commission.

Catherine Blaiklock, the former economics spokeswoman for UKIP MEP for the South East approached Mr Farage for a role in the party, The Sun on Sunday reported.

Mr Farage told the newspaper: “This was Catherine’s idea entirely – but she has done this with my full knowledge and my full support.

“If the Government goes back on its word and betrays the millions of people who voted for Brexit then we need a party prepared to stand up and fight for it.

“I’m fully prepared for Article 50 to be extended or revoked and if that happens, I will re-enter the fray.”

Why wouldn’t he rejoin UKIP?

Mr Farage left the party in December, saying he was uncomfortable with the direction Ukip has taken in recent months.

His resignation came after he called for Ukip leader Gerard Batten to be ousted.

Mr Farage berated Mr Batten for appointing English Defence League (EDL) founder Tommy Robinson as an adviser.
