The following GIFs come from footage of the iconic Vietnam era F-4 Phantom.
Two unfortunate F-4s were part of a a crash test.
They shot down the rocket sled facility at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
This one-way trip took them up to a speed of 500 mph…
…wait for it…
…and then SMACK into a concrete wall.
Going down the track in real time.
Multiple camera views show the 2 aircraft being atomized in slow motion.
So, now your probably asking the simple question of WHY fly a 41.5-thousand pound aircraft into a wall?
That wall measures in 12 feet of thickness…the same as the walls guarding our nuclear power stations.
They were testing the walls ability to absorb the impact.
Based on the F-4s’ disintegration to dust, those walls could hold up to an attack.
There is one issue with the experiment though.
These tests took place back in 1988.
Problem being, this was before “bunk busting” bomb technology was developed.
That’s just how the evolution of weapons VS defense goes.
Yeah, this is what being “atomized” looks like.
I’ll make sure to do a future GIFs with Facts gallery on this ol’ Bird…until then, hope ya enjoyed and maybe even learned something from the post.
