A journalist who exposed corruption in African football has been shot dead in what appeared to be a drive-by shooting.
Ahmed Hussein-Suale was murdered in Ghana by gunmen on motorbikes, Fifa have since released a statement which condemns the killing and have thrown their support behind investigative journalists.
Hussein-Suale was part of a team of investigative journalists that helped expose corruption in African football, which led to the resignation of the head of the Ghana Football Association.
Fifa reacted to the revelation by sacking the former FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi and fined him half a million dollars when video footage emerged that showed him accepting bribes.
The investigation led to an overhaul of football in Africa, as eight referees and assistant refs were banned for life, while 53 officials were handed a 10-year ban.
Ghana is a football-mad country and has been rocked by the scandal, which saw Nyantakyi requesting millions of dollars in exchange for government contracts.
Hussein-Suale, 34, had already spoken to police as he feared for his safety, after they shone a light on the corruption, but was shot three times in the capital Accra on Thursday 17 January.
Violence against journalists in Ghana is rare, but the death comes in the wake of a politician encouraging individuals to “beat him”.
Ghanaian MP Kennedy Agyapong incited violence by appearing on television with a picture of Hussein-Suale, claiming he was dangerous and if seen in the capital should be beaten.
The politician denied any involvement in the death of the journalist, but there have been calls for him to be ousted from his post.

The world governing body released a statement when they were made aware of the journalist’s death.
They said: “FIFA has been extremely disturbed and saddened to hear of the news that a local journalist based in Ghana- Mr Ahmed Hussein-Suale – was shot dead in Accra yesterday.
“FIFA re-iterates its support for journalist doing important investigative work, which on many occasions leads to an improvement in governance standards, not only in football but across the board in public life.
“FIFA also extends its deepest sympathies to the family of Mr Ahmed Hussein-Suale, and very much hopes that the perpetrators of this horrendous crime are caught soon by the relevant authorities.”
