PARTS of Britain will be hit with “blizzard-like” conditions today after a freezing night saw temperatures plummet to a bitterly cold -6C.
North east Scotland will be the coldest area of the country with freezing temperatures plunging to -8 or -9 early today, the Met Office said in its latest UK weather forecast.
But it’s on Monday afternoon when the hill snow will move into Scotland from the west.
This will bring “blizzard-like” conditions which likely cause “tricky” travelling conditions.
The snow could also land in lower parts of northern Scotland – which will see five to 10 centimetres of snow in higher areas.
All higher areas north of the central belt could be see snow tomorrow, a Met Office spokeswoman told The Sun Online.
Parts of northern England will see snow on the hills measuring around five centimetres.
Elevated parts of Wales could also be affected with flurries of snow.
WRAP UP WARM
This snowy weather system will continue to move south and may affect other parts of England and Wales – but the flakes are unlikely to lie on the ground.
Early Monday morning will see temperatures as low as -9 in north east Scotland – while the whole of the country will see widespread frost.
In northern England, temperatures will struggle to creep up from overnight lows of -6 in some places.
There will also be widespread frost in parts of England and Wales.
Later, blustery showers will last through Tuesday – especially in western parts of Scotland which could impact transport links.
In its outlook for Tuesday to Thursday, the Met Office says the snow will clear and conditions will become drier and brighter.
They said: “An icy start as rain and hill snow clears east on Tuesday, followed by blustery wintry showers.
“Staying cold thereafter, though generally drier and brighter.”
